Seasonal Flu-like and Other Respiratory Illnesses
Should I Book an Appointment
We are seeing a spike in respiratory illness, especially in children, and receiving a high volume of calls for appointments. Most people with respiratory symptoms – whether from flu, COVID, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), or other infections – will recover on their own and do not require prescription medication. We recommend patients self-isolate and rest, drink plenty of fluids and take analgesics (as needed) for headaches or muscle aches until they are better. Please see the information below to help you understand what you can do at home, when you should call our office, and when you need to go to the emergency room.As a parent or guardian, you know your child best. If you feel your child needs to be seen by a family Pysician please reach out for help.
Childrens Fever and Pain Medications
Children’s fever and pain medication have been in short supply. Some pharmacies will maintain a supply behind the counter, or may be able to provide alternate options without a prescription (i.e., chewable tablets, suppositories). Contact your local Compounding Pharmacy as they may be compounding children formulations (medicines) and may have medication available. See the following tip sheet on fever and pain medication, created by pharmacists and children’s hospitals for families and caregivers.
**Cold and flu symptoms may last 1-2 weeks and can fluctuate during that time.
