What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

  • Dietitians are regulated health care professionals and are registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • RDs have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree specializing in food and nutrition, completed a period of practical training in a hospital or community setting and passed a national registration exam.
  • The term “nutritionist” is not a protected title in most provinces and education may vary as there are no standard minimum requirements.
